The Next Big GOOD Thing!

Posted on February 20, 2018 by in Good Stuff

We have found a great NEW magazine…

Yes, we are a digital magazine promoting another digital magazine – because it’s that good!

It’s called Simplify Magazine and it’s a GOOD READ in our opinion.

Their 1st issue covered Happiness.

The 2nd covered Health and Wellness.

And the 3rd is titled Stress and Overwhelm.

All 3 issues are Good Reads for anyone, not just parents of young families. And the best part is – it’s really affordable!

Here’s an excerpt from their 1st issue that we enjoyed called “What Living Danishly Taught Me About Happiness” by Helen Russell.

Families Living Danishly

At the start of 2014, I gave birth to a baby boy, and it was this experience that really won me around to the advantages of “living Danishly.” Our neighbors left a wooden stork outside our house, as is the custom in Denmark, to warn the mail delivery person to tread lightly for a while—and I came to learn that Denmark is a great place to have kids.

Parents get 52 weeks of leave to share between them so men don’t miss out on spending time with their kids and the business of childrearing is shared more equally. So after two weeks of paternity leave post birth, my husband went back to work before tying up loose ends to take 10 weeks off to care for our mini Viking. Because a dad taking time out, fully paid, to look after his child is recognized as something that’s important and so is encouraged. As a result, fathers bond with their babies far sooner than those cramming in quality time at weekends.

Lego Man (that’s where he works) learned how to change nappies, how to do bath time and bedtime, and how you can feel like you’re going insane by 2 p.m. on a Tuesday when all you want is an hour’s uninterrupted sleep. And maybe a shower. He came to understand how looking after an infant 24 hours a day can be hugely rewarding but that it’s also relentlessly tough. He knows that, some days, all you need is for someone to come home and say: “You’re doing a great job—have some ice cream!”

And then we both went back to work, since kids are guaranteed a place in high-quality state-run day care from six months of age in Denmark, the cost 75 percent subsidized via taxes. All this at a time when friends back home have had to give up their jobs as they can’t afford child care. Because it’s totally doable to have a family and a career, 85 percent of Danish mothers return to work, and domestic chores are shared more equally between the sexes. It’s as if Danes recognize that caregiving is just as important as breadwinning—and it doesn’t matter who’s doing what.

Children also get to grow up free in Denmark. Preschoolers play outside, come sleet or snow, and are encouraged to run, jump, fight, and fall (often, if my own is anything to go by) without anyone rushing in to arbitrate. The idea of the “terrible twos” and “threenagers” are alien to Danes, who class toddlerdom as trodsalder, or “the boundary age,” when it’s accepted that pushing the limits is normal rather than naughty. This makes meltdowns in the mall or that awkward moment when your three year old defecates in a friend’s playhouse (just for example…) far more bearable—and no one gets judged.

Living Danishly…Anywhere

Of course, living in the land of Nord isn’t all a hippy-haven cakewalk. The weather’s terrible, the 50 percent tax rate takes some getting used to, and Denmark faces many of the same problems as the rest of the world—but these are countries with none of Denmark’s advantages.

From my research and experiences, I’ve come to the conclusion that the pollsters were right: living Danishly can make you happier.

So, at the end of our first year, we decided to stay—and now we’re in our fifth year. We’re happier. We’re more relaxed; we have our priorities straight; and we trust more. Oh, and I’m expecting twins next week.

But you don’t need to emigrate to get a slice of the happy Dane action.

Everyone can live a little more Danishly by prioritizing leisure, pleasure, and family. So leave work on time. Eat that pastry. Block out time for a hobby. Play with your kids, letting them get muddy and even fall down occasionally.

Remember the simple things that make you happy—seeing friends or family, lighting a candle, brewing a fresh cup of coffee, or just having a bacon sandwich. See? You’re feeling better already.

911

Posted on February 7, 2018 by in Good Stuff

There is a new thrill ride in town for all of you first responder junkies out there sitting on your couches, wishing you could go out and save the world. It’s called appropriately enough 911.

This series is not the same old cop and fireman show like Adam 12 or Emergency of yesteryear…

It starts when the phone call comes into the 911 center, (answered by the gorgeous red head, Connie Britton) whose calm, soothing voice will do her very best to get you the help you need. Or explain how to do CPR to help keep your loved one alive till the paramedics arrive. Or if fire or rescue is the order of the day, she will dispatch the LAFD to quickly respond to your needs. They will race headlong into the breach to get you off of a wayward roller coaster or they can save your suicidal boyfriend who erroneously thinks you cheated on him and is threatening to jump off a seven story building.

There is plenty of LAFD eye candy for the ladies in this firehouse in the form of probationary firefighter Evan (Buck) Buckley (actor Oliver Stark). His habit of taking the fire truck apparatus out to woo the ladies without the fire captains permission is about to get him fired. I’m going to watch this guy just to see how many lovely ladies he entertains in each episode.

If evil is afoot and you need police help, the 911 operator calls the LAPD, who will respond to your scene ready to dispense justice swiftly! You are put into the capable hands of (Sgt. Athena Grant, played by veteran actress Angela Bassett). Athena is a dedicated professional cop who has a multitude of personal and family problems she’s dealing with. She goes from one crisis to another, solving them quickly and lawfully, most of the time. She has a secret that shocks everyone in episode two.

Running into burning buildings or towards gunshots while everyone else is running away takes a special kind of person. They are called heroes by many, but they just call themselves FIRST RESPONDERS. When you need them, they will come every time . Check your local listings for 911 on the Fox Network .

It’s looking like it’s going to be a pretty good little show.

If You’re Suffering – Try This!

Posted on January 18, 2018 by in Good Stuff

If you have arthritis – this is an awesome product…

It is a topical product that is supposedly safe for even 12 year olds that actually works great! My daughter uses it too and loves it. She likes the fact that it has no scent like some joint creams do. “Even though my body feels like I’m 90 sometimes, I don’t have to smell like it!”

Google it yourself to investigate it like we did or just ORDER it… if you happen to be one of the few people that it doesn’t work for the money back guarantee means you haven’t lost anything for giving it a try.

It can be purchased online from Amazon or at your local drug store.

This is not an advertisement, it’s a review of a product that works.

It’s a good find!

Awesome Pie Crust

Posted on January 17, 2018 by in Good Stuff

We found the deal of the day – it’s awesome pie crust from Aldi.

We are talking about better pie crust than some bakers can make for 69 cents a piece! That’s right, we paid $1.38 for a package of two refrigerated ready made pie crusts and it’s BETTER than name brand.

It’s BETTER than any I personally can make. I don’t know what they do differently, but this is like no other pie crust we’ve ever used. It was really flaky, clean (no excess flour), perfectly pliable and delicious! The only downside we’ve found is that it’s apparently only available a few months a year around the holidays.  So you better rush out and get you some before they are all gone.

Great product!

Texas State Railroad… it’s a GOOD thing!

Posted on November 9, 2016 by in Good Stuff

Talk about a trip that is really worth your money, we found it!

The Pineywoods Excursion is one heck of a train ride.

You get 3 full hours of a train ride and the opportunity to bring a picnic lunch and eat it at a real train depot.

WATCH THIS… Pineywoods Video

That’s the historic early 1900’s steam engine that hooks up to about 6 cars and takes you off on a grand adventure through the woods from Rusk to Palestine Texas. All of the train rides offer various levels of comfort at various prices, but the open air we took was absolutely great. If the weather is agreeable (and it was for us), the open air car is fabulous!

The wind in your face, the train whistle blowing at every crossing and the beautiful countryside made for a great look back in time and a relaxing way to spend an afternoon. (Beware of one thing though… many children cry in the beginning.) I couldn’t imagine being cooped up with them inside the train, but the train is loud enough to make it bearable outside and after a bit – they all love it!

Everyone from newborn children to great grandparents ride these trains.

Many want to take pictures, some want to ride a train like they did when they were young and others want their grandkids to have the experience they had as children. Truly a GOOD time is had by all who make the trip. These trips run from March through the first week in November every year. And although the Pineywoods Excursions are over again for this year, the Polar Express is just starting up. You can see what tickets are available by CLICKING HERE.

Take a look at this cute video for it…

The Polar Express runs from November 18th to December 23rd.

Prices range from $20-$109.

Book tickets online at the link above or by phone at 877-726-7245.

Editor’s note: This is a tourist trap.

It’s crowded, the line to the restroom is long and many people move slowly. It is not for those who don’t have patience with children, people with disabilities or mature adults. These trains are still running today because of the income made from selling a lot of tickets, gift shop items, etc.

It is what it is and we were very grateful to be able to have this experience, but it’s not for everyone. They have to keep the lights on somehow…

If you have anyone in your family that loves trains – this would be a great gift idea!

Little White Crosses USA

Posted on November 9, 2016 by in Good Stuff

The Little White Crosses are now being made in Santa Fe…

The Santa Fe Good News Magazine is accepting the “relay CROSS” from Mr. Johnson to begin building them right here in our town. He has graciously given us another load of his crosses until we can try to keep up with the demand ourselves. We are committing to one year of “cross building” just like the Johnson’s did.

We want to do this in order to see to it that everyone in Santa Fe and the surrounding areas that wants a cross in their yard, can have one – FREE of charge. Christ gave us a great gift and we want to share it with anyone who wants it by way of this Little White Cross movement.

We have 2 PICK UP locations that we will try to keep stocked…

REMAX REALTY located at 13109 Hwy 6, courtesy of Monica Rojas and GALCO HARDWARE STORE located at 12920 FM 1764, courtesy of  Scott and Cecilia Eckenrode, Monica’s parents.

They are FREE to anyone who wants to quietly share their belief with the world.

If you would like to be involved in this movement in any way – please contact us and we will put you on the list of people wanting to support this silent protest for change in the direction of America in a quiet Godly way.

We will accept donations because we believe God will send them our way, but we would prefer supplies, labor, prayers and shares – rather than money, especially checks. This is only because we are not a 501c nor do we want to become one for a year and because we have more than enough red tape trying to run this business.

If you would like to find out more about this movement, you can click the links and watch a video below.

In the beginning… it started in support of a cross at the Port Neches park that an Atheist Group, Freedom From Religion, wanted removed because it was on city property. They are going all over the country doing this… but what has happened is unbelievable and amazing. This has become a movement by Gods people, standing up for the Lord and for our right as Christians, by displaying a little white cross in front of every Christian home that wants one. As Christians we know what the cross stands for. This is something God is doing and He has made it possible for this to happen.

They are still being offered in Port Neches until their supply is depleted…

If you would like some crosses for your friends and family, you can pick them up at 3161 Nall St  in Port Neches, Texas. Just pull up and take as many as you would like… they are FREE. We also leave them at Nicks Grocery and Judice’s in Port Arthur and the Big Store in Crystal Beach right now.

These crosses are in around 40 states and in two other countries spreading the love of Jesus. People in other states have started making them after seeing what has happened here. If you would like to join our group on Facebook CLICK HERE. Please pray for this movement and when some one asks you about the crosses, please share the Good News of Jesus Christ with them.

Editor’s Note: Mr. Johnson and his family have made the crosses for a year and believe that they are going to pass them on now, but you just never know what God may require of people who are obedient. They have graciously set us up to build for a year and it is our intention to pass it on to a neighboring town in a year as well.
