Bread & Butter Pickles

2 pounds of cucumbers
1 onion
1 cup of sugar
Pickling salt and spices
Cut cucumbers and onion and
cover with salt and ice cubes
for 1 1/2 hours. Drain and rinse
twice. Put the rest of ingredients
in a large pot and bring to a boil.
Add cucumbers and onions, let it
cool and then ladle into jars.
The great thing about pickles
is that you can play with them.
Make a batch and then start
tinkering with the recipe. I like
them with cloves, but people put
peppercorns, ginger and all sorts
of spices in them until they get
the exact flavor they like.
